xyriadnsd-0.8.0pre3

Today I released a new development version of my DNS server called xyriadnsd.

Autor/Author: Steffen Wendzel Dipl.-Inform. (FH) Steffen Wendzel (Date/Datum: 080801-00:53, Hits: 890)

In this release of xyriadnsd I removed different important features like the broken CNAME resource record support and the feature that made database updates possible. There is also no TTL support available (the returned TTL of a resource record in the response is always 3600 seconds now).

This was done since the main goals of xyriadnsd are 1. to be the fastest DNS server on earth, 2. to be very secure and 3. tp include only a minimum of code. And of course the removed code was far away from being perfect and such a service should only contain great code.

BTW. The removement of the database-reload feature should be no problem since xyriadnsd uses a binary resource record format (created by the xydnsdbcreate tool) what makes service restarts very fast.

I also updated the online documentation.

Oh ... aehm ... Do you use xyriadnsd? ;-)

You should add another goal: Follow the RFC and other DNS standards. :\
To remove CNames was good nevertheless. A feature what nobody needs. ;-)

But follow the RFC. :/
Maybe I will switch in my home network to xyriadnsd. ;-)

DNS standard would mean to implement CNAME, SOA and the like. All those things than could reduce the performance since the database would be a little bit more complicated. But I know that _these_ version of xyriadnsd isn t too useful. I need to implement it all.

CNAME is obsolet. ;-) But SOA for example really useful and important. I don t want that a client may have a problem only because somewhere use your dnsd. :-)
But that s your decission of course and I understand your priorities. :-)
