New Project: Korallenriff Today I finished the
first beta release
of a software
project called
'Korallenriff'.
Korallenriff
collects newsgroup
postings and emails
from different
accounts and stores
them in a database
for further usage. Autor/Author: Dipl.-Inform. (FH) Steffen Wendzel (Date/Datum: 080811-13:02, Hits: 961)
The main goal of the project is to collect data from different sources (currently only NNTP and POP3 are supported) and to store them in a database (currently only MySQL is supported). In future I will support fetching from RSS feeds and IMAP too (and also with encrypted connections). I also plan to support forwarding (for example: fetching NNTP and forwarding it to a SMTP account or forwarding fetched NNTP to another NNTP what would be an NNTP proxy).
You can find the project website here.
This is a project I wanted to write since about 1,5 years (I finaly started programming a few days ago). It is unfinished and the release 0.2.0 is a very first beta version but more features will follow in future!
What can you currently do with it?
This heavily depends on creativity ;-) Here are some ideas:
- Create a mail account and subscribe it to a mailinglist. Let korallenriff fetch the mails and store them in a database. This results in a mailinglist archive. You now can access the database (and display contents) using a web interface (you could develop one in PHP).
- You could write a blog software that makes mail postings possible: You set up a mail account where you send postings to and korallenriff fetches them. Your blogsoftware can then display the postings on your website.
- *** will add received ideas here ***
