Back from death: XyriaDNSd In 2004 I developed
the XyriaDNSd -- a
performance
optimized DNS server
for
Linux/BSD/Solaris.
The last release
(version 0.7.5) was
released in feb-2006
but now I plan to
release a new
version of it. Autor/Author: Dipl.-Inform. (FH) Steffen Wendzel (Date/Datum: 080321-16:50, Hits: 1111)
It wasn't planned to continue with the development process of this software but I decided to change some basic things on XyriaDNSd now to get back my development motivation. (The code is simply too good to let it linger in the garbage.
The primary change is that XyriaDNSd will _not_ support any forwarding in future -- you will NOT be able to use it as Caching(-only)-Service! It will only act as an authoritative-only server.
I also want to remove CNAME resource record support and my iCNAME-lookup implementation.
What will be left is a high performance server only able to answer queries he can answer by using his local database. And no, there are still no plans to enable zone transfers. It is a specialized server. And its specialization is 1. performance and 2. security.
Currently only the oooooold 0.7.5 version is available on the net but I will release 0.8.0-beta within next weeks or so. ____________
