About Me

Professional Part:
I am an information security/Linux/BSD specialist as well as an open source software developer and led the Hardened Linux project, contributed to other projects and the open source community by writing patches (here are some of them), BSD ports and bug reports, as well as by running and contributing to the Linux Users Welcome project.
I started writing computer related books and articles when I was 17. Occasionally I also give talks (see publications) and write some weblogs (see here, here).
If you want to hire me (e.g. for consulting or a talk in the area of data leakage protection/network security/*nix/Linux/BSD-related topics), just write me an email.
Academic Part:
I work as a researcher at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences within the IT4SE project. A list of my teaching activities is available. Additionally, I am a member of the university's computer security group (HSASec) and of the Gesellschaft für Informatik. For the IT4SE project, I worked as a visiting researcher at the HCI lab of the University of Waikato, NZ (two times, in total for 3 months). Other academic activities can be found in the research section.
I received my Diplom(FH) degree (equals B.Sc. with honours) in computer science with a focus on operating systems, networks and parallel computing from the Kempten University of Applied Sciences in 2009, and my M.Sc. degree in computer science with a focus on network security from the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences in 2011.
I am a 3rd year Ph.D. student at the University of Hagen (chair of parallel computing and VLSI), where I work in the area of network covert channels.
Areas of interest:
- network covert channels,
- network protocol engineering and TCP/IP protocols,
- network security,
- IT security and security engineering,
- administration and programming of Linux/Unix/BSD systems,
- open source project management, and
- building automation security.
- In addition to computer science I am interested in psychology and campus novels.
